ED & C
At Bismarck Dermatology Center, we prioritize effective, minimally invasive treatments to address various skin conditions, including pre-cancerous lesions and certain types of skin cancer. Electrodesiccation and Curettage (ED & C) is a trusted procedure we offer to ensure your skin health and peace of mind.

-
Preparation: The area is cleaned and sterilized. Local anesthesia is administered to num the area, ensuring comfort during the procedure.

-
Excision: The lesion, along with a small margin of healthy skin, is carefully removed. The size of the margin depends on the type of lesion and its location.

-
Closure: The wound is typically closed with sutures.

-
Lab Analysis: The tissue is sent to a lab to determine if it's benign or malignant.
What
Is It?
Electrodesiccation and Curettage (ED & C) is a safe and effective method to remove abnormal skin growths.
-
Curettage: The lesion is gently scraped away using a sharp surgical instrument called a curette.
-
Electrodesiccation: A controlled electrical current is applied to the treated area to destroy any remaining abnormal tissue and stop bleeding.
What to
Expect
-
Initial Consultation: During your visit, our dermatology experts will evaluate your skin and determine if ED & C is the best treatment for your condition.
-
Procedure: After numbing the area, the lesion is carefully removed through curettage and followed by electrodesiccation. The process may be repeated a few times to ensure complete removal.
-
Aftercare: You'll receive detailed instructions to care for the treated site, which typically heals within a few weeks, leaving a small, flat scar.
ED & C is ideal for treating:

-
Superficial basal cell carcinoma

-
Squamous cell carcinoma in situ

-
Actinic keratosis

-
Benign growths, such as seborrheic keratosis (in some cases)

Our team will assess your condition and recommend ED & C if it's the most appropriate option for you.
