TRUE Patch Test
We understand how frustrating it can be to deal with skin rashes, irritation, or discomfort that seems to come from nowhere. One of the most common causes of these symptoms is allergic contact dermatitis, a condition where the skin reacts to substances it is allergic to. The TRUE Patch Test is a reliable, non-invasive method to help identify these allergens and guide your next steps.

This diagnostic tool is used to determine if you have an allergy to certain substances that may be causing contact dermatitis. It involves the application of small amounts of common allergens to your skin to see if any provoke a reaction. This test includes 36 different allergens, ranging from fragrances and metals to preservatives and chemicals, that are known to cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
Application of Patches
During your first appointment, your provider will apply three adhesive patches to your back. These patches contain tiny amounts of allergens, which will remain on your skin for 48 hours. You'll be instructed to keep the patches dry, so it's a good idea to shower before your appointment so you can avoid getting the patches wet during the testing period.
Waiting Period
Once the patches are applied, you can continue your regular activities as long as you avoid activities that might cause sweating or getting the patches wet. The patches need to stay on for 48 hours without interference for accurate results.
Reading the Test
After 48 hours, you'll return to the office for a follow-up appointment where your provider will remove the patches. The skin will be examined for any signs of a reaction. You will need to wait in the clinic for approximately 30 minutes after the patches are removed to ensure accurate readings of your skin's response.
Interpreting Results
Your provider will assess the skin reaction to each allergen tested., If a positive reaction (such as redness, swelling, or blistering) is observed, it indicates an allergy to that specific substance.
If you have a positive reaction:
If any allergens trigger a positive reaction during the test, your provider will work with you to determine the best course of action to avoid exposure to these substances in your daily life. This may involve suggestions for lifestyle changes, avoiding specific products or environments, and offering alternative options to reduce your risk of future reactions.
